Board of Trustees Statement of Support - Capitol Insurrection
The Two Rivers Board of Trustees stands in full support of the Two Rivers community as we grapple with the recent insurrection at the Capitol and violent display of white supremacy. We vehemently reject ideologies and actions that are in direct conflict with the Two Rivers’ mission of developing self and community while being responsible and compassionate members of society. We stand with those who experienced not only the deep shock, anger, and disappointment as chaos unfolded in the District, but also the fear for the physical safety of DC residents as we were ordered to stay at home to avoid possible harm.
We resoundingly agree with Dr. Kristina’s message of concern for our students as a result of the horrific attack on our democracy. We recognize the complexities involved in supporting our students' needs as we witness this moment of upheaval, violence, and racial reckoning in real time. Two Rivers’ approach to supporting our students not only academically, but also socially and emotionally, will ground us as we teach and learn through this moment. The Board of Trustees remains dedicated to Two Rivers’ commitment to advocate for racial justice and to dismantle systemic and structural racism. We recognize this is not work that will happen overnight; it is work that will be reflected in daily conversations, decisions, and actions in the pursuit of individual and organizational accountability and progress.
As we continue to support and uplift one another, we take comfort in and draw strength from the simple but powerful foundation of our school - we are Crew.
