Our Approach
Our Approach
We believe in nurturing the whole child. We believe that character and community are as important as curriculum. We believe in seeing, respecting and celebrating our commonalities and our differences. We are Two Rivers.
Project-Based Learning
The Two Rivers approach to teaching and learning means hand-on instruction. We have seen that students are most engaged in their learning when they are working to solve a real-world problem. At Two Rivers, we’ve designed a curriculum that integrates literacy, science, and social studies in multi-week projects called Expeditions that grow their curiosity and character, build problem-solving and critical thinking, and develop strong foundational skills and knowledge across multiple subject areas.
Culture and Community
We are guided by our motto: “We are crew, not passengers.” We use an approach to learning that celebrates and recognizes the whole child by encouraging the Scholarly Habits and building community through rituals and traditions.
Two Rivers Learning Institute
In 2015, created the Learn with Two Rivers website to share some of our most promising practices with educators in Washington, DC and across the country. In 2020, we expanded our professional services and created the Two Rivers Learning Institute, offering courses, workshops, and customized professional development. Educators can find information about deeper learning instruction, access course offerings, and explore opportunities for customized professional development with us.
