Known to many as “Mr. T,” Tyrone Ferrell Jr. is a passionate educator, instructional leader, and community advocate born and raised in Washington, DC, where he attended public schools in Wards 7 and 8. A proud graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, Tyrone earned his bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies, with a focus in Communications. After graduating, he returned home to Washington, DC, determined to discover his purpose and make a meaningful impact in his community.
That purpose became clear when Tyrone discovered his passion for education and youth development. What began as a role leading college-access programming quickly evolved into a calling to serve children and families. Motivated by that passion, he entered the education field through Align Staffing, where he began substitute teaching and soon joined Two Rivers Public Charter School as a dedicated aide supporting second-grade students.
Over the past 10 years, Tyrone has become a true pillar of the Two Rivers community, earning a reputation as a trusted leader, an impactful educator, and a relentless advocate for student excellence. His journey at Two Rivers reflects both dedication and growth.
Throughout his career, Tyrone has served as a Teacher Leader, Instructional Mentor, Math Coach, Grade-Level Lead, Summer School Principal, and now Assistant Principal, coaching teachers across grades 1–4 in high-impact literacy and mathematics instruction. He has led instructional coaching cycles, facilitated professional development, supported data-driven planning, and helped build systems that strengthen student achievement, teacher practice, and school culture. His leadership is rooted in excellence, equity, and a deep belief that all students deserve rigorous, joyful learning experiences.
As Summer School Principal and now Assistant Principal, Tyrone has successfully directed large-scale academic programs, overseeing instruction, special education compliance, operations, staffing, and professional learning. His strength lies in developing high-performing teams, cultivating collaborative cultures, and using strategic coaching to drive measurable results for both students and educators.
Beyond his formal roles, Tyrone is known for his ability to inspire others through authenticity, care, and high expectations. He has become a respected coach and presenter, even facilitating professional learning for educators at the EL Education National Conference. Colleagues value his ability to build trust, develop talent, and move teams toward excellence.
Outside of education, Tyrone enjoys singing with gospel and R&B groups, staying active in the gym, and spending time in spaces that recharge his mind and spirit. These passions fuel the same energy and joy he brings into leadership and learning every day.
Tyrone believes deeply in service, legacy, and transformational leadership. One phrase continues to guide his journey at Two Rivers: “I’m here until the wheels fall off.” More than words, it reflects his unwavering commitment to the students, families, and educators he serves, leading with heart, purpose, and a vision for lasting impact.
