Rod Jones, Jr.
(He/Him) Rod has a strong desire to help young people because of his experience working as a clinical mentor and community support worker in both community-based and inpatient mental health facilities. His goal is to provide people with the coping skills they need to live empathetically and productively. His work offers positive alternatives to discipline, helps today’s youth broaden their understanding, and increases their self-awareness by integrating the ideals of restorative practices with the power of connection.
Currently enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Trinity University to become a licensed and certified therapist who works with adolescents and their families, Rod is an experienced mental health professional and educator. He has been working with adolescents in various capacities since 2014. Rod worked as a SEL coordinator, ISS coordinator, and Dean of students for four years at DCPS followed by four years in the DC Charter Schools.
Rod is thrilled to be supporting restorative practices at Two Rivers Elementary. He supports the distinctively flexible method that Restorative Practices use for determining the support of each student while developing alternatives to punitive responses. Rod offers a different way of resolving conflicts, and managing maladaptive behavior, through having authentic conversations, and moments of reflection with the Pillars of Social Emotional Learning. Throughout his professional life, Rod has always placed a high priority on helping communities, schools, and young people. Rod loves spending time with his daughter, traveling, and eating at different restaurants throughout the DMV area.
