David has over fifteen years of educational leadership experience in Washington DC. As a native of the area is extremely excited to join the Two Rivers PCS Family! David received his Bachelor’s Degree in History and International Studies with a Minor in Spanish from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2001, he spent a semester abroad at the University of Seville, Spain and became fluent in Spanish. After graduating college, he returned to the DC area and began his educational career.

Over the next six years, David experienced great results in the classroom and decided to pursue administrative leadership. After beginning as a teaching assistant, in 2005, he became a middle school mathematics teacher and served as the middle school team lead at the Sacred Heart School in Columbia Heights. Three years later, he accepted a teaching position as a middle school mathematics educator with Center City Public Charter Schools. In 2010, he received his Masters Degree in the Art of Teaching with a focus on Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Marygrove College. His mathematics action research project, “Achievement in Problem Solving” was published by the Education Research Information Center the same year. Shortly after, he was promoted to instructional coach and then assistant principal. He guided teachers to improve their professional practice over the next two years. During this time, he also planned and facilitated professional development sessions for CCPCS’s six campuses in many areas including school culture and climate, instruction strategies, and data analysis. In his last year with CCPCS, he served as a reading and math specialist, overseeing the response to intervention process and implementation of intervention programs to address student deficits and enable student gains.

In 2014, he became a Master Educator with the District of Columbia Public Schools. In this role, David conducted hundreds of instructional observations and evaluations in elementary and middle school literacy and mathematics classrooms. This position afforded him the opportunity to build rapport, provide professional development, and guide teachers to implement specific strategies to improve their practice through detailed and evidence-based reports, one-on-one conferences, and continued individual support. Finally, David was also served as the Assistant Principal of Math at Maury Elementary in a predominately coaching role, providing intensive weekly coaching to a cohort of mathematics teachers. He conducted weekly observations, provided feedback, resources, and real-time coaching support, as well as de-brief sessions when teachers engaged in reflective conversations, role-play, student work analysis, and cooperative planning.

David likes to spend time with his wife, an area pediatrician, especially when taking their beagle on long walks, bike rides, or hikes. He also loves to cook, play drums, draw, and spend with his family who all still reside in the DC area.

As David enters this next chapter in his educational career by joining the Two Rivers family, he is excited to grow with the students, faculty, administration, and families of the school community. He is passionate about providing a rich, meaningful, and exciting learning experience in mathematics and plans to bring the content to life in his classroom!
