Dear Two Rivers Families,

It is almost summertime at Two Rivers, which means summer school and extended school year programming are nearly here! Knowing how critical additional opportunities for connection and learning are this year, Two Rivers has nearly tripled the size of its academic program offerings this summer.

When we surveyed families in April about summer, we heard from over 200 families, 80% of which expressed an interest in a summer school option. Sixty percent of interested families were seeking an in person option, while 20% preferred a remote option and another 20% didn’t have a preference. Families were nearly split on whether they would be most interested in a half day or full day option. However, we heard loud and clear the desire for students to have social interaction and connection, academic instruction in areas of need, and the feel of “real school” again. We agree!

In response to family feedback, Two Rivers is offering in-person summer programming to approximately 300 students this summer through two programs covering all TR grades that will run five days per week, for five weeks from June 28th – July 30th:

For students in Preschool (PS3) through Second Grade and students in Grades 7 and 8, Two Rivers is offering a 5-week, half-day Challenge-Empower-Engage (CEE) Summer Program. The program will focus on academic intervention while providing social connection through crew and other recreational activities.

For students in Grade 2 through Grade Six, Two Rivers is offering a 5-week, full day Boost Summer Program. Two Rivers has been selected as one of six partner schools for the DC Department of Parks and Recreation’s Summer Boost Program, which will combine academic instruction provided by Two Rivers instructional staff along with social-emotional and recreational programming provided by DPR staff.

Students who qualify for extended school year (ESY) services, students who have shown significant academic regression or lack of progress as evidenced by our assessment data and/or grades, and all families who expressed interest in our previous survey received a jump on registration last week. We are now opening up all remaining slots to any other interested Two Rivers families on a first come, first serve basis. We currently have remaining seats in all grades. Note: All children must have update-to-date immunization records to attend.

Please note that while we will be offering a remote option for students who qualify for ESY services, all other programming will be in-person this summer.
