FAQs
I want my child to attend Two Rivers. How do I register?
Two Rivers enrolls new students through the My School DC lottery process. The application to enter the lottery for SY25-26 went live on December 16 at myschooldc.org. Any student who is a resident of the District of Columbia is eligible to apply. If your child is awarded a space, you will be contacted once the lottery results are released.
How old does a student need to be to enter PK-3, PK-4, or Kindergarten?
- To enter PK-3 for the 2025-26 school year, your student must be 3 years old by September 30.
- To enter PK-4 for the 2025-26 school year, your student must be 4 years old by September 30.
- To enter K for the 2025-26 school year, your student must be 5 years old by September 30.
Do you maintain a waiting list after the lottery?
Yes, students will be pulled off the waitlists as we continue to fill open seats. If we no longer have open seats in our grade levels, we will not pull from the waitlist.
How long will my student stay on the waiting list? Do I need to apply every year?
The waiting list is only valid for one school year. You must apply every year through the My School DC lottery, details can be found here.
How will you contact me if an opening becomes available for my student?
We are committed to promptly reaching out to you by phone and email within 24 hours after an enrollment offer is extended. Ensuring we have your accurate phone number and email is crucial, as each family will have an enrollment deadline. Please notify My School DC immediately if there are any changes to your contact information. We appreciate your cooperation.
Do you offer any preferences?
We offer preferences in the following order:
Founders
Teacher/Staff
Two Rivers sibling
Transfer (Can only be used one time)
Two Rivers participates in the District’s Equitable Access Designated Seats Program. In this program,Two Rivers sets aside 25% of seats in preschool, which will be reserved until May 1, for students who fit this category: homeless, under the care of the District’s foster care system, qualify for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Two Rivers sought this preference in order to better mirror the demographics of our neighborhoods and wards.
I have more than one child on the waiting list. If one of my children is offered a space, will the others be offered a space?
After a student receives an enrollment offer whether they were matched or waitlisted, all qualified siblings are automatically elevated to the top waitlist position based on preference. It’s important to note that while this places them in a favorable position, actual enrollment is contingent on space availability and not solely determined by the waitlist number. Furthermore, it’s possible for other families to share similar circumstances, and thus, sibling enrollment isn’t always guaranteed the number one position. We appreciate your understanding of this process and are here to address any questions you may have.
