Important update about school closure

Dear Two Rivers Community,

We write with the sad news that due to public health needs in the District, the Mayor announced this morning that DC schools will stay closed through the end of the school year. This means that Two Rivers students will not return to our school buildings during the 2019-2020 school year and we will complete the year with remote learning. We know this is the safest plan, but we are disappointed that we won’t spend the spring semester learning together in person.

We know you may have many questions – about our plans for the summer, our plans for next school year, how we will make up for lost time, if the calendar will be adjusted, how we will celebrate the school year, and more. We are considering multiple options and are in regular touch with leaders around the city. We encourage you to give us feedback on how things are going thus far and questions you have through the survey we launched last week – there’s still time to share your thoughts at https://bit.ly/TRFamilyCheckin. We will reach out after we return from spring break with thoughts on next steps, including further opportunities for questions and conversation.

We understand what an incredibly challenging time this is for everyone, including our students. We want to thank you for the work you are doing to support your children and encourage their learning. Please continue to visit the COVID-19 Closure Resource page on our website for information on food, remote learning, and more.

As we get additional information, we will continue to update you on what the public health needs will mean for your family and our school community. We appreciate your patience. We celebrate your persistence and resilience. Most of all, we ask that you give your children a big hug from the many members of the TR staff that miss seeing them every day. Take good care.

Sincerely,

Aurora Steinle, Chief of Staff

Jeff Heyck-Williams, Director of Curriculum and Instruction
