Guye Turner

Interim Principal | 4th Street ES

Guye (he/him) is a native Washingtonian and product of the DC Public School System. He attended the George
Washington University where he received his BA in Sociology in 2003, and later his Master of Arts in
Teaching with a specialization in Elementary Education from American University in 2006. In 2015 he
received his certification from the Principal Leadership Program while attending the prestigious RELAY
Graduate School of Education.

Guye began his teaching career as an assistant teacher at one of DC’s premiere nursery schools. In 2004
he became one of the founding staff members of Two Rivers as an assistant teacher and shortly
thereafter became lead teacher of the kindergarten first grade loop. He later transitioned to Arlington
Public Schools (APS) where he taught kindergarten for five years and also served as an instructional lead
teacher. During his time in APS he gained leadership skills at both the school and county levels, and was
the Jamestown Teacher of the Year in 2011. He also worked hard on creating useful ways of
incorporating technology in the early childhood classroom and presented on the topic at a national
level. Guye returned to Two Rivers in 2012, first serving as Assistant Principal and then Principal. He led
the planning and opening of the Two Rivers at Young campus in 2014-2015, the first EL school to
successfully replicate in the nation. During the first 18 months he led Two Rivers at Young to dramatic
increases in student achievement, achieving Tier 1 status in record time.
Guye also shares a passion for music and is an active participant in the performing arts community. He is
a member of a professional vocal band called Cartoon Johnny, and is also an aspiring children’s artist.
Guye is so thrilled to step into the role of Interim Principal for the 23-23 SY. He has earned a
reputation as a passionate, enthusiastic, innovative, results oriented administrator who regularly
achieves success for our staff, families, and young scholars. Guye is deeply committed to the safe
keeping, student achievement and social emotional growth of all our young scholars and the community
as a whole.
