In 2012, Alex moved from Texas to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, in South Dakota, to become a high school English teacher. He taught for four years before becoming the founding principal of the Little Wound Extension School, which served students who had not been as successful in a traditional educational setting. The Extension School focused on individualized and experiential learning along with Lakota language and culture. Additionally, Alex worked for his district as a grant writer and manager, successfully soliciting and managing $14 million in grants and external funding.
Alex joins Two Rivers after directing the education policy portfolio for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Alex holds a Bachelor’s of Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in School Administration from Oglala Lakota College, located in Kyle, South Dakota.
