Happy Thanksgiving!

We're so grateful for the students, families, teachers, and Two Rivers staff who make our community great!

Two Rivers CFC Code 66458

Did you know that Two Rivers has been partnering with the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) for several years? To date, friends and family have allocated more than $15,000 to Two Rivers! The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that allows all federal employees to give to charities and other non-profits that they care about. Government employees, please consider choosing Two Rivers PCS (CFC Code 66458) this year as you participate in the campaign.

Share Your DC Showcase!

SYDC in five cohorts (!) has helped foster a culture of connection with over 100 participants across our three buildings. In addition, we have inspired other schools with this parent-facilitated model and in January, Breakthrough Montessori will launch their own Share Your DC!

In celebration of this work and to reconnect and build new bonds, we are hosting our first Showcase of Learning on December 5th. Only with a Showcase can we really call this an expedition!

We are elated to have Busboys and Poets as our partner in this endeavor, and they have generously offered to host the event. (Patrick and Carol from their team participated in the latest SYDC cohort!)

Visit tinyurl.com/SYDC125 to RSVP and let Khizer Husain (khusain@tworiverspcs.org) know if you have any questions!

Artist Connections

We're seeking local artists to be our 2018 Featured Artists at Framing the Future Gala. The gala committee will select ten to fifteen artists living in the DC/VA/MD metro area to be featured at the Gala! Each artist donates work to be auctioned at the event and also attends the event as our guests of honor. If you have any personal or business connections to local artists who might be interested in partnering with us, please introduce us! We always seek a variety of mediums: painters, muralists, multi-media artists, fine jewelers, glass artists, wood craftsperson, textile artists, photographers, and ceramists are all welcome to apply to be a Featured Artist. In the past, local artists have come into the classroom, created collaborative art pieces with students, and attended Two Rivers events. We love introducing our Two Rivers students to experts in the field! E-mail Lori Steenhoek (loristeenhoek@gmail.com) with ideas and prospects!

Middle School Lab Shifts

At the middle school, our Lab classes serve to ensure that students receive the instruction they need. Throughout the year, Labs shift as middle school teachers and leaders review available data. This might mean that your middle school student is in a new Lab, or your student might remain in the same Lab! In February we will make our final shift for the year. Please do ask your child or their crew leader about new Labs, You can also reach out to our Middle School Assistant Principal, Ms.Lashaunda at lrobinson@tworiverspcs.org.

Book Launch at the Folger
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has written Bold & Brave, an inspiring book for children (geared towards 8-12 year olds) that looks at ten influential suffragettes and their journey that took more than 70 years of passionate commitment.

The Folger would like to invite students and their families to join Senator Gillibrand and her guests at a conversation for children and adults about women's right to vote on November 26, 6:30-7:30PM.

Seating is limited; reserve your seats at tinyurl.com/folger1126.

Honor Roll in the Middle School

At the end of every quarter in the middle school, we celebrate students with honor roll certificates during Community Meeting. Academic honor roll is calculated by taking all strand level grades and averaging those for a course grade and then taking all course grades and averaging those together. For bronze honor roll the range is 3.0-3.4. For silver honor roll, the range is 3.5-3.7. For gold honor roll, the range is 3.8-3.9 and for platinum honor roll the range is 4.0 or above. In addition, we have a Scholarly Habit Honor Roll where all Scholarly Habit grades are averaged and any student who averages a 4.0 or higher receives the award. Also, we give recognition for students who average 100% homework and classwork. We were excited to honor 78 students in the middle school with honor roll certificates for the first quarter of the year. Keep it up, Middle School!

Giving TWOsday at Two Rivers

This #GivingTuesday, we've set a goal to raise $20,000 for field studies by 11:59 pm on Nov. 27, and all of your gifts are matched dollar for dollar up to $7,500! Members of our community already know just how important these experiences are to our students, but don't just take it from us. One of our seventh graders recently said, "Field studies are important! They help us know that our work really matters; like, we aren't just doing something for a grade." Field studies provide authentic experiences for our students to create high-level work. Whether you give $10 or $1,000, all gifts will transform our students' learning experiences. Make your gift at tinyurl.com/TRGT18 today!
