Middle School Musical
In the middle school, students elect two out of the three disciplines to study during the course of the year. These electives include drumming, song-writing and keyboard playing, drama, and visual painting. Every spring, middle school students also participate in our School Musical by performing both crew and character roles. This collaborative project provides students the unique opportunity to work in a professional theatre and to use the tools and skills that they have been learning all year. To date, we have performed twelve musicals: The Wiz (2008); Annie (2009); Willy Wonka (2010); Beauty and the Beast (2011); Aladdin (2012); The Music Man (2013); Shrek (2014); The Little Mermaid (2015); The Lion King (2016); Madagascar (2017); Mary Poppins (2018); and High School Musical (2019).
"Leela's participation in musicals at Two Rivers helped her find something she's deeply passionate about. Two Rivers gave her the opportunity to be part of a cast and take on a variety of roles that challenged her and helped her to grow her skills and confidence. She's now enrolled in a competitive theater program and is loving it!"-Ms. Lygeia, Middle School Parent
"Two Rivers musical performances bolstered my confidence to audition for Duke Ellington School of the Arts."-Rainah, a 2019 graduate of Two Rivers who now attends Duke Ellington School of the Arts
"The musical was an integral part of my son's middle school experience at Two Rivers. Each musical was engaging, motivating, and challenging, deepening his love of acting, singing, dancing, and stage direction. The teachers inspired him to learn about new parts of himself and nurtured his love of the arts, encouraging him to audition for Duke Ellington School for the Arts to pursue his passion even further!
